“In my long scientific career, I have never encountered a species as lovely as this one,” exclaimed Huemer, who named the moth after his wife.
While European lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) are generally considered well-known and thoroughly researched, new species are still being discovered every year. Most of these species are inconspicuous and frequently enough overlooked.
In contrast, colorful species tend to attract more attention and have been extensively catalogued in Europe. Thus, the finding of an extraordinarily striking and previously unnamed moth came as a delightful surprise.

Congratulations on both milestones! Here’s to many more years of love and adventure.
