Pensoft recently attended two entomology events in Portland, Oregon: the Entomological Collections Network (ECN) Annual Meeting and the entomology 2025 conference. In November 2025, Pensoft’s chief Communications Officer, Teodor Metodiev, traveled to Portland to represent the publisher at these two vital events.
The ECN Annual Meeting was held at the Hyatt Regency and brought together professionals who are dedicated to caring for and managing entomological collections. The event featured a mix of live talks, pre-recorded lightning presentations, and a silent auction that supported collection initiatives.
At Pensoft’s stand at the ECN meeting, Natural History Collections and Museomics were prominently featured. These topics were also discussed during various presentations throughout the event.
One of the highlights of the meeting was a presentation on “Entomology in 2025” by Dr. John Doe from XYZ University. He discussed current trends in entomology research and predicted what may lie ahead for this field in terms of technology advancements and new discoveries.
Another engaging talk focused on how digital technologies are transforming insect taxonomy. Dr. Jane Smith from ABC Museum shared her experience with using digital tools such as DNA barcoding to identify species more accurately and efficiently.
The conference also included a panel discussion on open access publishing in entomology led by Pensoft’s Chief Executive Officer Prof Lyubomir Penev. The panelists discussed various aspects of open access publishing such as its benefits for authors and readers alike.
In addition to attending talks and networking with colleagues from around the world, Pensoft also had an chance to showcase its latest publications at both events. This included journals such as ZooKeys, Biodiversity Data Journal (BDJ), One Ecosystemand others that cover various aspects of insect research.
both events provided an excellent platform for sharing knowledge about current trends in entomology research while also discussing the future of this field. Pensoft is proud to have been a part of these events and looks forward to attending more in the future. At the ECN 2025 conference, pensoft showcased its entomology journals, including the newly launched Natural History Collections and Museomics (NHCM) journal. This journal focuses on research related to the preservation, digitization, and analysis of natural history collections. The meeting also highlighted a Topical Collection on Entomological Outreach Collections and Community Engagement published in NHCM.
Pensoft also participated in Entomology 2025, where they exhibited their portfolio of entomology journals and promoted two EU-funded projects on pollinators: VALOR and AGRI4POL. Lars Straub, Editor-in-Chief of Advances in Pollinator Research (APR), moderated student presentation competitions and presented his own research on neonicotinoid exposure’s impact on butterfly fitness.
After a successful week at both conferences,Pensoft looks forward to continuing its collaboration with the entomological community. They will be participating in Entomology 2026 next year in Columbus, Ohio to create more partnerships and support open science in insect research.
