Pensoft, a leading scholarly publisher and technology provider, is pleased to announce the addition of two new journals to its diverse portfolio: Swiss Journal of Palaeontology (SJP) and Swiss Journal of Geosciences (SJG). Both journals are affiliated with the Swiss Geological Society and the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT).
With a strong commitment to high-quality peer-reviewed research, these two journals have now officially transitioned to Pensoft’s advanced publishing platform, ARPHA. This marks an exciting new chapter in their journey towards open access.
The Chief editor for both SJP and SJG will be Dr. Daniel Marty, associate lecturer at the University of Basel.

The Swiss Journal of Palaeontology (SJP), published on behalf of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT), has a long history dating back to its launch in 1874 under the name “Schweizerische Paläontologische Abhandlungen”. The journal primarily focused on publishing palaeontological monographs. In the year of its rebranding to SJP in 2011, it became a scientific peer-reviewed journal.
In response to a decision made by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) in early-2020 to stop supporting conventional subscription-based journals, SJP transitioned to an open access model. In addition, as of late-2025, SJP is now affiliated with the Swiss geological Society (SGS). With their previous publishing contract ending at this time as well, KSPA and SGS have partnered with Pensoft Publishers for their streamlined processes that better suit the needs of SJP.
SJP continues to be an crucial outlet for research in fields such as alpha taxonomy, systematics, palaeobiology and conservation palaeontology.
The first three publications from SJP are now available on the journal’s new website along with an editorial by Dr. Marty. To stay updated on new publications from this journal you can subscribe for email alerts through their homepage.
