IMPORTANT UPDATE: Borneo Earless monitor Now Listed as Threatened Species

The ​U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ‌(FWS) has officially ‌listed the borneo earless monitor (Lanthanotus borneensis) as a threatened species under the ​Endangered Species Act. This decision was​ made after a thorough review ‍of comments from previous public comment periods.

Colorado Herp Regulations under Review

UPDATE 9/25/25: colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) will be hosting a virtual public webinar‍ on October 7 to discuss potential​ changes to the state’s herpetological regulations. If you are interested in participating in this meeting, ​please register using the link below.

Wisconsin herpetological Regulations⁣ Under Review

UPDATE 9/10/25:The Wisconsin Department of Natural resources will be holding a preliminary public hearing on ‍October 2 regarding Statement of Scope SS041-25‍ which concerns amphibian and reptile regulations ‍in‍ the state.


New Exotic Animal Ordinance Proposed in Lincoln County, NC

UPDATE 9/8/25: The Commissioners have decided to postpone the vote on the new exotic animal ordinance due ⁤to ongoing discussions and potential changes. We will continue to⁢ monitor this situation and ‍provide updates as they become available.

UPDATE 9/2/25: The draft of the new ordinance has been released,and a meeting ‌has been scheduled for September 8.This proposal includes a ban on​ ferrets, ⁢most⁤ aquarium⁤ fish, sugar​ gliders, rock iguanas, and more.It also ⁤does not include‍ a grandfather provision⁣ for currently owned pets.


Southern Hognose​ Snake Proposed‍ for threatened species⁣ Listing

Posted 8/28/25: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS)⁤ is proposing to list the southern​ hognose snake (Heterodon simus) ‌as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This decision was made after careful‍ consideration⁢ of threats such ⁣as habitat loss and‍ degradation caused ⁣by land conversion, road mortality, invasive species, and climate change.
