IMPORTANT UPDATE: Borneo Earless monitor Now Listed as Threatened Species

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has officially listed the borneo earless monitor (Lanthanotus borneensis) as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. This decision was made after a thorough review of comments from previous public comment periods.

Colorado Herp Regulations under Review
UPDATE 9/25/25: colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) will be hosting a virtual public webinar on October 7 to discuss potential changes to the state’s herpetological regulations. If you are interested in participating in this meeting, please register using the link below.

Wisconsin herpetological Regulations Under Review
UPDATE 9/10/25:The Wisconsin Department of Natural resources will be holding a preliminary public hearing on October 2 regarding Statement of Scope SS041-25 which concerns amphibian and reptile regulations in the state.
New Exotic Animal Ordinance Proposed in Lincoln County, NC
UPDATE 9/8/25: The Commissioners have decided to postpone the vote on the new exotic animal ordinance due to ongoing discussions and potential changes. We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available.
UPDATE 9/2/25: The draft of the new ordinance has been released,and a meeting has been scheduled for September 8.This proposal includes a ban on ferrets, most aquarium fish, sugar gliders, rock iguanas, and more.It also does not include a grandfather provision for currently owned pets.
Southern Hognose Snake Proposed for threatened species Listing
Posted 8/28/25: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) is proposing to list the southern hognose snake (Heterodon simus) as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This decision was made after careful consideration of threats such as habitat loss and degradation caused by land conversion, road mortality, invasive species, and climate change.
